Shiro Cosmetics Notebook Collection Mini Review + Swatches + FOTD

left to right: Heart Attack, Task Force, Shinigami, More Sugar, Perfect World

Shiro Cosmetics' Death Note inspired collection is something I've been meaning to swatch for a long time. I've had the samples for quite some time now, but better late than never, I suppose. These were swatched in natural light.

I'm calling this a mini-review because I don't have much to say about it. The colors are lovely and complement each other well. They all go on smoothly and wear well. I'm especially glad for the soft gold that "Perfect World" is, though "Heart Attack" was probably my favorite color. You've probably noticed only half the collection is swatched here. All my shots of the other half were total garbage, but these were my favorite colors anyway. The only color I'm sad I couldn't capture correctly was "Second Kira," a charcoal color with gold sparkles. The swatch for it on Shiro's official website accurately portrays its awesomeness.

Death Note was one of my favorite anime in highschool. I cosplayed every main character at some point; L, Light and Misa. For Otakon 2007 I cosplayed L and my girlfriend cosplayed Light. So I feel a certain connection to this collection.

I did a quick makeup look a while ago with Perfect World, Heart Attack and Second Kira along with Sugarpill's Asylum. It turned out pretty well, and is a nice warm color look. It was a very soft, smokey, almost innocent look at first.. which I liked.

But I couldn't resist adding a more bold lip color to it. Amazing how much a darker lip can affect a look.

I  also wore one of my favorite outfits this day. I wish I had full body shots of it, but these blurry things will have to do.

Snow, Glass, Alice - Outfit Post

This started out as a dark mori girl-ish look, but as always I tend not to wear GRAMM pieces quite as they were intended to be worn. The combination of the key apple necklace and red lipstick brought to mind Neil Gaiman's dark interpretation of Snow White, "Snow, Glass, Apples."

Bite High Pigment Matte Pencil - Review

I was in Sephora recently where I finally broke down and bought a lovely, vampy color for my lips. I've been leaning towards a more vintage style look with my makeup and I wanted a nice bright red lipstick to complete the look. I've always been a bit scared of lipsticks... since I started doing ballet as a four year old I've always hated the taste and feel of lipstick. While I must own hundreds of dollars worth of eyeshadows, I only own one lipstick. Sad, isn't it?

I went into Sephora and asked what they had that was moisturizing. I've always had terrible luck with lip products and flakies. I've done everything I can to keep my lips exfoliated and moisturized, but it doesn't seem to make the slightest bit of difference.

The girl helping me introduced me to Bite, assuring me that their lipsticks were hydrating and bright. I swatched and tried on a few, but I ended up going with one of their High Pigment Matte Pencils instead   of one of their Creme Lipsticks mainly because of the colors available.

The pencil has a twist up bottom and is sleekly designed. The color I decided on is a black currant shade called "Bramble." I thought about going more traditional brick red, but a more berry shade is really more my style. I was so in love with the whole look after I tried the color on that I kept it on the rest of the day after leaving Sephora. It stayed a pretty firm 5 hours with no problems and minimal touch ups.

I think I may be brave and try acquiring some more lip colors and so far I'm liking Bite as a brand. It's a bit expensive, but the color payoff is nice and it stays quite well.

Baby, The Stars Shine Bright Shopping Haul - 7.18.12

I dropped by h.Naoto SF recently, but they haven't received many new items I'm interested in yet (read as: no new Gramm items). So I swung by Baby, The Stars Shine Bright to see what I could see.

I don't wear lolita too much anymore, especially not the sweeter styles, but I do enjoy AATP and some of Baby's jewelry to pair with a gothic or mori girl look. After trying on some head-bows I found a few lovely things in the jewelry display case and I couldn't resist.

I absolutely love their attention to detail when it comes to wrapping your items up for you. My items were packed away in a little baggie with a bow and tucked into a larger Alice and the Pirates bag after the shop girl asked if I had a preference between Pirates and Baby. It was an easy choice; everything dark

I also got this lovely little Alice and the Pirates sticker that will probably grace the back of my iPod touch case.

I bought the Fragrant Rose Memories necklace in Antique Gold. It's a gorgeous piece and the shop girl graciously suggested I look over all the ones they had left in stock so I could choose the one I thought was in the best condition.

And here I am wearing it with my Gramm halter-neck one piece (which by the way is receiving an update soon!).

The Fragrant Rose Memories ring was relatively cheap, so I decided to get the set. It came in an adjustable size that actually did accomodate my teeny fingers.

The thing that caught my eye the most, however, was the Creeping Ribbon ring! It's absolutely perfect and a piece that Baby decided to release in sterling silver! It was definitely worth every penny.

I was shocked when I tried it on and it fit my finger perfectly. I am forever struggling to find unique rings that both fit (I have nothing but bad luck with adjustable/one size rings) and are of high quality.. and this met both of those requirements.

And that concludes my retail therapy for the week!

TokyoMilk Dark - Review

TokyoMilk has a gorgeous Dark line that I absolutely love the design for. I was lucky enough to receive the "Tainted Love" set from the Femme Fatale collection and the "Chance" Rollerball from the Fate & Fortune Collection as gifts from my boyfriend.

Chance is a great scent for the Summer and Spring! It has a very nice, fresh smell. It's sweet, but it remains light, not cloying and wears well. I don't wear it as much as Tainted Love, but I still like it a lot. I also got a tiny bubble bath as part of my present.. but I haven't used it yet. ^^;

The Tainted Love set contains the Tainted Love eau de parfum, Tainted Love shea butter handcreme and the La Vie En Rose lip elixir.

Tainted Love smells lovely and has quickly become one of my favorite scents to wear.  The Tainted Love fragrance notes are dark vanilla bean, orchid, white tea, sandalwood. I'm great at describing scents but it has a very warm, vaguely spicy smell. It reminds of gingerbread, actually. Because it is a warm scent I enjoyed wearing it more during the fall and winter months. The scent usually becomes somewhat subtle by the end of the day, but definitely doesn't completely disappear. I should mention that if you don't like super sweet smelling perfume you might not like this one as much. It's not that it's sugary sweet or over the top, but I like my perfumes a bit more on the sweet side than the flowery side.

I'm not a big lotion fan, but the handcreme is nice and buttery. I do put it on my elbows which tend to dry out more than anything else and it definitely helped.

The the La Vie En Rose lip elixir has flavor notes of rosewater, sweet orange, peach and tahitian vanilla. Once again, I like sweet scents and tastes and I was surprised how much I liked this combination. All the flavors are pretty muted and work well together. It has a mostly fruity taste/scent. The orange and rosewater flavors seem the be the most dominant.

As far as lip balms go, it's just... normal. I honestly have yet to find a single thing that seems to help and/or prevent flakiness for me besides just drinking water.

These sets make awesome gifts and I'd actually like to see what the rest of the collection is like! I'm very happy with it overall and I hope TokyoMilk continues to add to their Dark line.

To close here's a shot of the perfumes I wear regularly!

Makeup look inspired by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs music video for Heads Will Roll. I've been having a lot of fun with this weird faux double-lid look lately.

The reds are a combination of Sugarpill's Love+ And Asylum.
The silver is Sugarpill's Tiara.
The eyeliner is Kat Von D's Autograph Liquid Liner in Puro Amor.

Cute Toilet Mats & Rugs from RomaPri

I'm not normally one for super cute home decor, but Romantic Princess had a few things I'd make an exception for. They carry a lot of furniture items like bedspreads, dressers, rugs and kotatsu but they also also have other random household trinkets and fashion items.

Their stuff seems to fit a more hime-gyaru type of style, but I thought this toilet mat set was reminiscent of Sentimental Circus, which I adore.

I'm sorely tempted to get some of their cute rugs. Once again, most of them are a bit too pastel/cute for my taste, but I think I could make a couple of things work. They do also have a section that is dedicated to a more gothic style, but it's a very small portion of their overall site.

h.Jelly Dark Red Rum - outfit post

Time to check one more thing to check off my bucket list; owning something from Dark Red Rum. Too bad the Summer months are fast approaching, as this knit is a bit warm. With something as elaborate as this I think it's best to keep everything else very simple; so no jewelry, some basic makeup, etc.

This gorgeous thing has huge billowing sleeves and lacing details and I'm totally in love with it. Even my boyfriend, who could not care less about fashion, really, REALLY likes it.

As far as Dark Red Rum goes I deeply desire this dress, I'd even be willing to get it altered to fit me perfectly. But it's incredibly expensive, so I may hold off on this insane, wallet-slaying purchase for now. Too bad there's only one left. [sob]

Shopping Haul - 4.27.12

I got a knock off Alexander McQueen style clutch off of ebay after lusting heavily over the real thing recently. The quality actually isn't terrible, and it was only about fifteen dollars. I can't imagine I'll have too many occasions to use it, but it was cheap enough that I didn't mind skipping lunch at a restaurant to fund it.

I also went out to grab some things in the city a few days ago. I stopped by Neiman Marcus and finally got to pick up Deborah Lippman's Good Girl Gone Bad nail polish along with Glitter in the Air.

two coats of Good Girl Gone Bad with topcoat

I also stopped by the Disney Store, where I honestly didn't expect to get anything. Then I found this adorable Bambi themed linen spray. It's clearly aimed for use with baby clothing, but it smells really nice and I like to be able to freshen up my closet occasionally. Initially it smells a bit like candied pineapple to me and I kind of fell it love with it.

The last thing I got for myself were some chocolates.

Back row, left to right: Pistachio Cup (pistachio buttercream) Cacao Forte (99% Dark Ganache) Blue Cheese Truffle (soft blue cheese & dark chocolate rolled in almonds)

Front row, left to right: Key Lime (fresh key lime juice in white chocolate) Fleur de Sel Caramel (caramel infused with grey french sea salt) Bananas Foster (banana and caramel flambeed with rum)

While I was looking I asked them to tell me which was the most unique chocolate that they had and they brought out the Blue Cheese Truffle. The taste was definitely unique, smokey and subtle and delicious. It was definitely my favorite of the six that I got.

Le Petit Prince - Outfit

I got new shorts from h.naoto recently and I had to build an outfit around them as soon as possible. You can't see it in this picture, obviously, but they have amazing frills and a really cute bow on the back. I haven't dressed in anything close to kodona style since high school, but I still love the look.
